Dignified work for mothers means nourished families and children staying in school.

Next step: Invest in thread and pay a warehouse administrator.

Now that the building is complete, the artisans can confidently accept commercial orders, knowing they will be able to deliver products in a timely manner.

Their next logical step is to invest in an inventory of thread at bulk rates so they can minimize production costs and deliver their orders faster.

To expedite increased production, the cooperative also requires a dedicated administrator for client cultivation, raw product acquisition, safe warehousing of materials and finished products, training artisans, and financial management.

The MSV artisans are loyal to one another and to their community, and currently there is enough work for sixty women. With focused increase of commercial orders, the cooperative is ready to expand to include the two hundred women who completed the MSV training workshops and live in villages surrounding Zinacantán.

Traditional artisans are happy to be at home while they embroider and weave on back strap looms like their ancestors, which means they can pass the knowledge to their children. Adventurous artisans enjoy the challenge of creating new designs from ancient techniques, colors, and patterns.

The cooperative looks forward to having a website that features their cultural traditions and shares their innovative designs and products.

The cooperative is certified by the Fair Trade Federation, so artisans earn fair wages while working from home. One of the requirements of the certification is that the artisans invest 10% of their profit in a community initiative. The artisans set aside 5% of their profits for an artisan emergency fund, and 5% supports the Yo'onik Learning Center programs that share the building.

You can help these diligent and talented artisans to financially support their families, and contribute to the wellbeing of their community through investing in education.

The name Mujeres Sembrando la Vida ~ Women Sowing Life ~ describes the artisans' collective vision of being leaders in the creation of economic, educational, health, and environmental opportunities.
