Your gift today will echo into the future...

Ruk'ux needs $7,000 for study stipends so all ten students can finish the year!

With your help, the Ruk'ux Scholarship Program supports ten extraordinary students to continue their studies and meet the challenges of becoming well-rounded adults and leaders in Santiago Atitlán, Guatemala.

Competition to enter the program is intense because there are more applicants every year. After rigorous academic and socio-economic evaluations, every January a few very special thirteen-year-olds enter the program.

As you can imagine, being the first family member to study beyond elementary school comes with a special set of challenges, so belonging to the Ruk'ux tribe of young leaders goes far beyond the scholarship.

The students' academic excellence is just the beginning. The university and high school students help the younger students who are struggling with subjects at school, and they all enjoy reading books together and talking about them. The older students practice writing for an international audience by way of their monthly bulletins.

These students will graduate into an extremely depressed economy, so Ruk'ux foments entrepreneurial spirit through the creation of micro-enterprises and encourages the important lessons of leadership through community service.

The Ruk'ux students dream of contributing to a better future for themselves, their families, and Santiago Atitlán.

Breakdown of some of the Ruk’ux Scholarship program expenses:

  • 10 Annual school enrollment fees: $75 USD (total for all students)
  • 5 Middle school scholarships: $500 USD (each student)
  • 5 High school and university scholarships: $600 (each student)
  • Leadership and academic support: $200 USD (the whole group benefits)
  • 2 graduations per year: $150
